Be part of Africa’s one-of-a-kind convening where youth, activists, movement leaders, academia, artists, policy makers, private sector, thought leaders and development practitioners, come together to assess Africa’s development journey and thereafter design actionable next steps to driving change on the continent.

Themed, The African Development Agenda | A People Emerging, KAN FESTIVAL 2021 seeks to convene a Pan African audience over a series of coordinated digital and physical dialogues, workshops, hackathons, and creative arts presentation

The KAN Festival 2021 Artivists in Residency (AIR) theme is


4 artists will be selected for the person 2-week residency at MS-TCDC in Arusha, Tanzania.

This unique residency offers:

  • An artist’s fee of $650
  • A material budget of up to $700
  • Artist studio work space provided on campus
  • Legalities & travel expenses covered by KAN Festival 2021
  • Accommodation & meals at MS-TCDC campus, Makumira, Arusha for a period of 2-weeks
  • An AIR anchor to provide mentorship through the daily huddles and ensure that the artist receives all the flexible support needed during the residency period
  • An opportunity to show previous works in KAN’s online gallery and an opportunity to produce and develop new body of work created during the residency and presented in person gallery at MS-TCDC exhibition spaces (Could include satellite exhibition spaces)
  • 1 on 1 discussion with the AIR anchor to develop the best environment of support after confirmation

  • Submit a maximum of five (5) high resolution and/or a link to previous work you have done – If you wish to include video or sound please send links to the work on Vimeo, YouTube, Soundcloud, your website, or other online platforms. Please do not send video or audio files
  • Collaborative projects are welcome

Who can apply: Submissions are welcome from across Africa.

The artist residency is open to any career stage (i.e. Emerging, Mid-career, Established)

Languages: Swahili, English, French

Panel Selection: 3/5 Selection panel will be from 2021 KAN representative, AIR Alumni & Partner
